72 Students Graduate With First Class Honour At FUT, Minna

Seventy two students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, would graduate with first class degrees at the institution’s 28th convocation ceremony scheduled for Feb. 1.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, made the disclosure at a news conference in Minna on Friday.
He said 941 of the graduands are in the second class upper category, 1,905 second class lower; 707 third class and 46 pass degrees.
Bala said that 3,671 students would receive first degrees, while 506 would be awarded master degrees.
According to him, 58 others will be given doctorate degrees while 208 will be awarded with post-graduate diplomas.
‘‘A closer look at the figures reveals that the total number of awardees for undergraduate degrees is up by about 20 per cent compared to last year.
‘‘In addition, the numbers of Ph.D and master degrees as well as post-graduate diplomas have all recorded significant increases above those of last year.
‘‘These trends are consistent with the upward trajectory being recorded by the university,’’ he added.
The vice-chancellor noted that a recent survey of employers of labour had shown FUT Minna graduates to be among the most preferred by employers of labour.
He said that the employability index of the university’s graduates stood at 60.61 per cent.
‘‘The university is doing very well in its core areas of teaching, research and community service.
‘‘It has continued to maintain a trajectory of progress and advancement and it is, therefore, not surprising that FUT Minna remains the best specialised university in Nigeria.
‘‘All of the successes being recorded by the university are the results of deliberate and conscientious efforts by staff and students of the university,’’ he said.
The vice chancellor re-affirmed the university’s resolve to maintain a competitive edge in research and development. (NAN)

ASUU Strike Update Today 25th January 2019

ASSU NEWS TODAY; FG HASN’T ADDRESSED CRITICAL AREAS OF FUNDING VARSITIES –ASUU
Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has stated that the Union has not watered down the initial demands it made at the beginning of the on-going strike.
In an interview with Daily Trust on Wednesday, the don stressed that the strike will only end when government addresses the demands of the lecturers.
There have been various back-and-forth meetings between the presidency and the union since the strike started in November 2018. This has been followed by speculations on a possible end to the protest soon.
However, restating the stance on the union’s demands, Ogunyemi stated: “The strike will end when government addresses our minimalist proposal sent to it. We have reduced what we proposed drastically. What we propose now is a far cry from where we started. So, government must address this proposal that we have before it in order to pave way for the suspension of the strike action. Unless it does so, we cannot go back to our members to prevail on them to consider other positions than where we are.
“What we are doing now is that we are making a sacrifice for students to secure their future. We are sacrificing our today so that our children can have public universities that they can be proud of in the future. Those of us who are struggling now, went to public universities and if students are lucky to be in those universities, they should also support us in defending the universities from collapsing.
“The trouble we are making is that we don’t want a situation in which our universities would collapse just like our primary and secondary schools have collapsed. That is the context from which we want people to appreciate the ASUU struggle.”
He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to join the Union in appealing to government to provide positive response to their demands, as it is what is necessary from prevent the collapse of public universities.

ASUU Strike Update Today 23rd January 2019

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday said that it would continue with the ongoing strike unless the Federal Government satisfied their demand on the revitalization.
Speaking after the rescheduled meeting with the FG at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment which lasted about four hours, ASUU president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, told reporters that the meeting ended with grey areas to be resolved.

He said, “We have not suspended the strike, the discussion will continue at a later date. We are going back to our members for further consultation. FG gave us reaction to our proposals but there were still grey areas that we are trying to sort out.
“Before the strike can be suspended, the most critical area that FG must address is revitalization. It is central to our academic work, unless that area is addressed, our members will still have issues. We are not demanding for N50bn, we are saying that the minimum that FG can release to reactivate revitalization fund is N50bn.”
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, however said that the FG and made substantial commitment to ASUU demands and would meet the leadership again when they were ready. He added that although he had expected a marathon session with ASUU because President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered him to ensure that all issues relating to the strike were resolved, the meeting ended early.
He said, “We did not take a long time than we anticipated. We have other commitments but the important thing is that we have made substantial progress. We have reached some agreements in seven areas. Most of the issues have been resolved but ASUU will need to consult its members and come with what they think.

ASUU Strike Update Day 79: Outcome of 21st January Meeting

The meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government is currently going on at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Abuja. According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the aim of the meeting is to ensure the lecturers get back to work.

It was gathered that the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, led the union’s delegation to the meeting. ASUU delegation arrived at the venue some minutes before 4:00 p.m., but no member of the federal government delegation was initially around.
The FG delegation later arrived and the meeting was declared open by Mr Ngige at exactly 5:25 pm.
The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, was absent when the meeting comenced. However, the permanent secretary, Sunny Echono, was present to represent the minister.
Commenting before the meeting, Mr Ogunyemi maintains the union wants the government to get it right this time around. He said it is essential for its demands to be met to ensure quality education
The meeting which lasted for four hours, could not yield a positive result as ASUU Chairman has insisted that the strike will continue. This conclusion was reached, after Federal Government showed no commitment towards the funding and revitalisation of universities.
The ASUU Chairman, Professor Ogunyemi, told newsmen that the issue of funding and revitalisation of universities was too crucial too be left out, and so the union cannot call off the strike if nothing is done to commit to that issue. He said; “The most critical of all is revitalisation,” he said. “Revitalisation is central to our work as academics and unless that area is addressed, members will have issues with ongoing action.”
He then added; “They gave us their response to our proposals, there were still grey areas that we are trying to sort out. So, when we finish those areas, you will know the full outcome.”
On the Federal Government Part, Dr Ngige said; “We have started defraying the end allowances there, we have also released N15.4 billion for the shortfall in payment of salaries, and we have also agreed today to fund revitalisation,” he explained to reporters at the end of the meeting.
Ngige continued; “We are going to expend some money there; this is irrespective of the fact that government has released from the TETfund account about N163 billion.”
ASUU is expected to again, consult with members before taking the next step, and then reach the FG for another meeting, at a later date.

300,000 Candidates So Far Have Registered For 2019 UTME – JAMB Disclose

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that about 300,000 Candidates have so far been registered for the 2019 UTME. This is coming 1 week after the Board commenced the sales of form. This information was made known by the Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
Dr Benjamin stated that the registration so far has been smooth, and the board is happy with the development because so far, there is just a tiny gap between the number of candidates that have acquired the e-pin and that of those that have registered,” he said.
Meanwhile, there have been calls that JAMB should set up centres across the states in Nigeria to handle candidates’ biometric issues instead of such candidates going all the way to Abuja to solve the issues as this poses additional burden to the candidates and their parents.
However, Dr Benjamin insisted that all candidates with issues of biometrics must go over to Abuja for it to be rectified.
“I want to reiterate the fact that only the Registrar of the board has the sole right to attend to such issues. “Any candidate who may have issues with the capturing of his or her finger prints at their respective points of registration will need to come down to our office in Abuja. This will require the Chief Executive to do it himself for the purpose of security,” Benjamin said.

ASUU Strike Update Today 14th January 2019

ASUU Vows To Continue Strike Until FG Pays N220 Billion
The Academic staff Union of Universities, ASUU has vowed to continue the over two months strike action. Recall that ASUU in an earlier publication rejected the offer made by the Federal Government after consultations with its members. According to ASUU, the offer from the Federal Government is far from expectation.

Speaking during a telephone interview with newsmen on Sunday, National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi said that ASUU has shifted ground from N1.1 trillion to N220 billion which he said will cover for three quarters in 2019.
He stated that the union was ready to call off the strike if the federal government paid the N220 billion.
When asked if the union was ready to shift grounds from the N220 billion, he maintained: “We have already shifted ground. “We presented five tranches payment to the federal government. If we made request for five tranches of N1.1 trillion and they are not ready to give one, that shows they are the ones not ready to shift grounds.
On the impact of the strike on the February general elections, the president says that ASUU strike has nothing to do with the February elections; adding that the issue with the FG has been on since 2006 and the position of the union has nothing to do with the elections.
“If they know they are banking on students to use for election, then let them do what they ought to do. If they do what we asked them to do, our member can take decision this week and the matter would be resolved.” He said.
Regarding some universities who are trying to boycott the strike, Ogunyemi said: “We know that there are some moves by government agents at federal and state levels to break our ranks. But our members are getting back to us and to a large extent now, our members are resolute. “Yes, there are some overzealous chancellors and administrators in one or two universities who are trying to brake these ranks. However, on the scale of balance, they are not having their ways. On the way of handling the default institutions, he said, “Our union shall handle that.”

Can I Use Awaiting Result For 2019 Jamb Direct Entry Application?

The truth is  that Jamb Direct Entry and UTME registration has begun for 2019. Now, a question comes to mind, Can I Use Awaiting Result For Jamb 2019 Direct Entry (DE)? This question is especially from those whose ND & NCE results are yet to be out.
Without further waste of time, you can use awaiting result for Jamb 2019 direct entry registration. Just that you will have to upload the result before Jamb starts giving admmision

While registering for this year’s Jamb direct entry, put “AR” in place of your result. AR means Awaiting Result.
The good news is that schools would have released ND (HND, NCE, JUPEB, IJMB or the result you are using for D.E) result before Jamb starts releasing admission list.
All you need to do is to travel to your Polytechnic or college of Education, Jupeb Centre, etc to collect your result and upload to Jamb portal.
You may be wondering, how do I upload my direct entry result to Jamb portal when it is out? This shouldn’t be a problem for you. Immediately your result is out, go to any Jamb approved cbt centre around you and give them to help you upload.
Uploading of your direct entry result costs around #1,000. In addition to your result, you would have to drop your email, phone number and necessary information with the Computer-based centre. You don’t need to bother how to check if they have actually uploaded it (because they do).
In summary, you are free to register Jamb direct entry even when your school is yet to release ND or NCE result but do not fail to upload your result to Jamb website when it is released. You can’t upload the result by yourself. Visit any approved Jamb centre to have it uploaded.

NOTE THAT YOU CAN ALSO USE IJMB/JUPEB TO APPLY FOR DIRECT ENTRY. FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE

JAMB (UTME) A BLESSING OR A CURSE? As Told By A Concerned Nigerian

It pains me how jamb has become the determinant of our future no longer are we to pursue our dreams but they are now the one making decision for us.

The educational system in Nigeria is now below standard as our youths destiny are been delayed all in the name of 'you didn't reach the cutoff mark' or 'no admission' in terms of the course or the university.
2015, my cousin wrote Jamb and got 248 later that year, she went to unn where she wrote her post ume. She applied for law but was not admitted all in the name of she didnt reach the cut off mark.
2017 the same issue occurred this time a jamb score of 250 still yet no admission. 2018 she applied to study law at uniben these time she scored 275 not just that they didn't give her admission her name was transferred to Benson idahosa university. We called to make enquiry concerning their school fees but the amount was too much that we had to turn down the admission am talking about millions of naira.
My point is that things are no longer done by merit.Have seen a situation where someone paid #300,000 for his child all in the name of gaining admission. Is these the way forward Nigerians? Which way again for the common man.

Pls friends I need your say on these. We shouldn't keep quiet on these matter. If u are victim of these u can share your experience. Mind u she did very well in all her post utme exams.

For Alternative to Jamb utme, you can register for IJMB/JUPEB which is more safer. for more enquiries, click here

4 Things Students Can Do During ASUU Strike

There is no doubt, the ongoing strike, championed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, is a sad tale as this could cause major disruptions in the school calendar. But do not be downhearted because TERTIARY BOOK is here to give you things students can do during the ASUU strike that will help you benefit from your stay away from school.
Start a business
As an undergraduate, this is the best time to start a small business. Launch out that business idea you have been nursing. You are not too young to be an entrepreneur, use this period at home to start a small business. The good thing is that you do not necessarily need a large capital to get started. You can also use social media as a tool to leverage your business.
Learn a new skill
There is no better time to learn a skill than now. It could be photography, jewelry making, baking, producing music, writing etc
Be determined to learn and be good at it, it will give you an edge and provide opportunities for a side hustle, it will help build your self confidence and give you value for time invested.
After learning, don’t hesitate to put the skill into practice even when school resume again. This will enhance the skill and make you perfect in it.
Get a job
While at home, you can as well make money. Get a job as an intern or assistant in an office or company preferably close to you, so you won’t spent too much on transport fares.
You can get a job as an apprentice at a creative studio or salon, you may also decide to go for something freelance like writing or blogging.
The money made may not be much but it may be enough to take care of some needs. Working is fun and educational.
Volunteer
There is a measure and sense of accomplishment that come with service to humanity. It exposes one to great opportunities like training, travel etc
Volunteering is a great way to give back to the society. You can volunteer for, NGOs to better the society or a number of empowerment programs tailored for young people where certain skills you possess may be needed.
apart from the points listed above, the most important thing is to DO SOMETHING. Don't just sit at home idle and waiting for ASUU to end strike. Remember that an idle man is the devil's workshop.
Best Wishes

NANS Begs FG Over ASUU Strike
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has appealed to the Federal Government to fulfill agreements reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to ensure resumption of academic activities in public universities.

“The attention of the apex students governing body, NANS, has been drawn to the recent ASUU position and condition for suspension of the ongoing strike embarked upon by the union.
