ts Public Relations Officer, Dr Fabian Benjamin who promulgate this to newsmen said: “JAMB will officially publish the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), cut-off marks for universities and polytechnics in June.” He urged candidates of the 2016 UTME to ignore the cut-off marks from some websites and social media, stating that those cut-off marks were just the imagination of people.
Having gone through the rigour of UTME examinations in the past weeks, candidates seeking admission in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are expecting JAMB cut-off marks which will give candidates next line of action.
For any student to participate in post-UTME of the institutions of first and second choice, such candidate must beat JAMB 2016 cut-off mark, institution’s of first choice cut-off mark, and departmental cut-off mark. To JAMB, the cut-off point for university and polytechnics are determined every year by the candidates’ over all performance. Apart from JAMB setting entrance cut-off points for university and polytechnic applicants, each institution, also has its cut-off point for students seeking admission in the school.

UNILORIN TO ADMIT MORE CANDIDATES THIS YEAR IF.......

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), last Wednesday (March 30, 2016) disclosed that the institution is determined to admit more students in the next academic session subject to the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for an increase in its admission quota.
Prof. Ambali made this known while featuring on a Radio Nigeria, Harmony FM, Idofian current affairs programme, “Our Guest”.
For some time now, the ratio of admitted students to the number of applicants has been a serious concern to universities in the country, admission seekers and their parents.
For instance, out of the more than 103, 000 candidates that applied to study in the University of Ilorin in the 2015/2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), only 11, 057 could be admitted due to the low admission quota granted the most subscribed university by the regulatory bodies.
Fielding questions on the radio programme, Prof. Ambali noted that the management of the University was seriously worried that most Nigerian youths cannot gain admission into their choice institutions due to the low carrying capacity of Nigerian universities.
While commenting on the rumour that the University of Ilorin had released its cut-off marks for the 2016/2017 admission exercise, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that no institution in Nigeria will announce its cut-off mark until the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) determine the national cut-off marks.
Prof. Ambali said that the University of Ilorin would only announce its cut-off marks after the meeting of all tertiary education institutions in the country with the NUC and JAMB.
He, however, warned desperate admission seekers to be wary of scammers, as the University of Ilorin’s admission is not for sale. He said that the University management has devised a very stiff punishment for any of its staff that is caught engaging in such dirty deal.

Effects Of Campus Fellowship On University/Polytechnic Students In Nigeria

There are many arguments on the issues, roles and prospect of campus fellowship on the academic performance of the student. Most often campus fellowship negatively affects the academic performance of students, as they make the students to be lazy, and indifferent on their studies. But campus fellowship also enhances the academic potential and performance of the students.
Campus fellowship provides students with an opportunity to share their talents, experiences, learning, and their time with others. These helps to improve positive behavioural style, skills, moral, values and excellent academic performance of students, in the classroom.
The global mission of Campus fellowship is soul winning, discipleship and preparation of dependable young ministers that will serve the next generation in various campuses.  They mentor converts until they become reliable tools in God’s hand for the mentoring of other converts. They provide a framework, were students can converge to academically associate and transfer learning to each other. They help the student to formulate a life and academic goal and objectives and works towards it, for an achievement.
As we go back into history and dig deep into the original languages of the Bible, we will discover significant facts that help us to understand God’s intended meaning of the word, fellowship.
The first fact concerns the meaning of the Greek root. Our English word, “fellowship” is the translation of the Greek word, “koinonia.” This Greek word is derived from the root, “koinos,” which was a prefix in ancient Greek. If you were to add this prefix to words meaning “living,” “owning a purse,” “a dispute,” and “mother,” you would get words meaning “living in community together,” “owning a purse in common,” “a public dispute,” and “having a mother in common.” So we see that the root of the word, “fellowship,” means “to hold something in common.”
Campus fellowship is aimed to bring students closer, in order to receive, share and help each other in the material, academic and spiritual growth. But the question still remain, how can we help others if we don’t know their needs? How can we know their needs if we don’t fellowship with them? How can we love them if we don’t have contact with them? Of course, this applies to all people, but especially to our fellow Christians, in the various campuses.

THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENT

The campus fellowship plays a significant role in the academic performance and the well being of the students. God created us as social creatures with an innate need to have relationships with others.
Schooling is not only done in the classroom, but through fellowshipping with other people, one can gather enough experience on human interrelationship, tolerance, moral values and positive skills. Fellowship, whether it’s in a formal meeting with hundreds of people or in a living room, or both, one can learn positive values that will help him/her to perform well academically.
Campus fellowship through their sermons, programs, and by example, they support education by:
  • Encouraging innovative and carefully monitored reform efforts in the schools, paying particular attention to governance, funding, assessment, and selection of students;
  • Structuring class size to the best advantage of all children, paying particular attention to reducing class size in different grades;
  • Honouring teachers as role models for young people;
  • Emphasizing books and literacy; speaking out for the academic freedom of teachers and librarians; calling for the broad availability of all age-appropriate materials and books in school libraries; and encouraging schools to include information which will broaden students’ understanding of human life all over the world;

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

The negative effect of campus fellowship can be attributed to various obstacles and hindrances within fellowship group that has adverse effect on the academic performance of the students. Activities like all night vigil or prolong church programmes, affect the concentration of students in the classroom and thereby make such student weak and dull during classroom activities. Generally, it makes most students to be indifferent and lazy in the classroom activities. Time factor is another major problem, most fellowship’s activities wastes a lot of time, students should have use to study, in order to improve their academic performances. Most of students who were into one position or the other in their fellowship find it difficult to participate actively in the classroom activities as they combine their school work with fellowship work at same time.
The doctrine of most fellowship association also impact negatively on the school life of the students. Some fellowship organisation frowns on their members associating with other groups or people. This disrupt the interaction  processes of students in teaching and learning processes.
In conclusion, Campus fellowships have both the positive and negative impacts on the academic performance of students. People must recognize the goal of campus fellowship, before arguing on its role for academic performance. People often do not take part in a campus fellowship because they see no clear purpose. As previously discussed, the purpose of campus fellowship was to show God’s glory to the world in all the many ways he has instructed us in the Bible.
