Campus fellowship provides students with an opportunity to share their talents, experiences, learning, and their time with others. These helps to improve positive behavioural style, skills, moral, values and excellent academic performance of students, in the classroom.
The global mission of Campus fellowship is soul winning, discipleship and preparation of dependable young ministers that will serve the next generation in various campuses. They mentor converts until they become reliable tools in God’s hand for the mentoring of other converts. They provide a framework, were students can converge to academically associate and transfer learning to each other. They help the student to formulate a life and academic goal and objectives and works towards it, for an achievement.
As we go back into history and dig deep into the original languages of the Bible, we will discover significant facts that help us to understand God’s intended meaning of the word, fellowship.
The first fact concerns the meaning of the Greek root. Our English word, “fellowship” is the translation of the Greek word, “koinonia.” This Greek word is derived from the root, “koinos,” which was a prefix in ancient Greek. If you were to add this prefix to words meaning “living,” “owning a purse,” “a dispute,” and “mother,” you would get words meaning “living in community together,” “owning a purse in common,” “a public dispute,” and “having a mother in common.” So we see that the root of the word, “fellowship,” means “to hold something in common.”
Campus fellowship is aimed to bring students closer, in order to receive, share and help each other in the material, academic and spiritual growth. But the question still remain, how can we help others if we don’t know their needs? How can we know their needs if we don’t fellowship with them? How can we love them if we don’t have contact with them? Of course, this applies to all people, but especially to our fellow Christians, in the various campuses.
THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENT
Schooling is not only done in the classroom, but through fellowshipping with other people, one can gather enough experience on human interrelationship, tolerance, moral values and positive skills. Fellowship, whether it’s in a formal meeting with hundreds of people or in a living room, or both, one can learn positive values that will help him/her to perform well academically.
Campus fellowship through their sermons, programs, and by example, they support education by:
- Encouraging innovative and carefully monitored reform efforts in the schools, paying particular attention to governance, funding, assessment, and selection of students;
- Structuring class size to the best advantage of all children, paying particular attention to reducing class size in different grades;
- Honouring teachers as role models for young people;
- Emphasizing books and literacy; speaking out for the academic freedom of teachers and librarians; calling for the broad availability of all age-appropriate materials and books in school libraries; and encouraging schools to include information which will broaden students’ understanding of human life all over the world;
- Initiating programs in cooperation with the public schools to provide after-school and vacation help, enrichment and adopt-a-school programs, and literacy and reading emphases. ETC.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
The doctrine of most fellowship association also impact negatively on the school life of the students. Some fellowship organisation frowns on their members associating with other groups or people. This disrupt the interaction processes of students in teaching and learning processes.
In conclusion, Campus fellowships have both the positive and negative impacts on the academic performance of students. People must recognize the goal of campus fellowship, before arguing on its role for academic performance. People often do not take part in a campus fellowship because they see no clear purpose. As previously discussed, the purpose of campus fellowship was to show God’s glory to the world in all the many ways he has instructed us in the Bible.
