JAMB Bans Cybercafes From UTME Registration

According to JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede  “We are no longer going to allow the cyber cafes to do the registration exercise for prospective candidates because they are extorting candidates and overcharging them.

“They also do services they do not have the capacity to do, coupled with the fact that there was no way of tracking them because they were not registered.“Another major reason is the mix-up they create on the data of the candidates. Some will just ask the candidates to write their names and other details down for them.
“On accumulating such data, they now get all of them mixed-up, thereby creating problems for these candidates.
“We know there will be uproar because they make a lot of illegitimate money from these services, but we cannot leave the candidates at their mercy.
“Particularly when people will make noise that it is JAMB that was extorting them,’’ he said.
All prospective candidates are advised carry out their registration and access the board’s major services in any of  the 718 CBT approved and accredited centres in the country.
…. by this, no cyber cafĂ© can render to candidates any of the below-mentioned services:
  • Creation of JAMB Profile for Candidates
  •  Upload of O’ level and A’ level results
  • Application for Condonement of Illegitimate Admissions (formerly Late Application or Regularization)
  • Application for Fresh JAMB Admissions Letter
  • Application for Reinsurance of Admission Letter due to change in programme or institution
The Board has disclosed that it would commence the sale of the registration form on Jan.10, 2019 and would span six weeks.
All candidates are to note that the general elections would not affect the sale of forms as the examination schedule has been planned ahead of the election.

Four Productive Things You Can Invest Your Time In As An Undergraduate

Some things when misused or wasted cannot in anyway be redeemed—non renewable and such is the four letters word, time. Though popular saying has it that time can be redeemed, this, theoritically, is not only incorrect in our experience of time but also practically incorrect; a propose of epileptic erudition. But then, since time is priceless as you would agree with me won’t it be wise to make the best of it in the most important stage of education? Invest those between lectures in something productive, if not immediate in effect should be in years to come?
Outlined below is an encapsulated edit of ways you can make the best of your time without wasting as “big”a second.
1. Diary Keeping: We all have appropriated, not by coincidence but design equal amount of time; an unprecedented egilitarianism. And If there is anything productive you can use your time for at night it is keeping a Diary of your activities for each day; all encapsulated in a page. It doesn’t only make things more easier and less difficult when writing your autobiography but also makes it faster when compiled since it will cover at least four years of your life.
2. Writing: Wether tutorial books, novels, short stories, poem even wise sayings could be productive when compiled and published. Those in between can be used for such purpose instead of being used for chatting away opportunities. You can write a thousand words per day. Calculate it for a year and you have got yourself a 500 pages + novel. You don’t only get to be a great person after having a degree you can be before you do.
3. Tutoring: Now another thing to invest your time in is doing tutorial. O please….don’t give i am not the brilliant type because guess what? If you are a dullard you won’t be in that university. And perharps you are thinking, damn! i am shy, can’t face a crowd of students well you don’t have to face a crowd your pen can face blank pages and script down the tutorial.
4. Music: Join a progressive musical group on campus if none exist start one up. You don’t really need to know how to sing you just need to spend those in between learning musical instruments that makes you indispensable. You can opt for dancing or song writing. The thing is being part of it.
Time is money, irredeemable nonetheless managable. Becoming a great person is impossible when the preciousness of time is not acknowledged. Those time you use in watching EPL and UEFA matches can be converted into something beneficial to you, your love ones and your nation. Remember, always make hay when the sun shines.

Nigerian Universities to Revert to Five Point Scale of Grading System

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed that all Nigerian Universities should revert to the five point scale of grading system hitherto in use with effect from the 2018/2019 academic session.
In a statement signed by Dr G.B. Kumo, Director Academic Planning for the Executive Secretary of NUC, the Commission stated that it has been inundated with series of inquiries particularly from the International Organizations and Foreign Universities on the status of the four point scale in use and previous degrees issued during the five point scale.
Presenting the letter on the Grading System and Degree classification in the Nigerian University System to Members of Senate, the Director Academic Planning Unit, Professor Vincent Asuru said that the issue of course credit system of Grade Point Average in the Nigerian University System was discussed by Directors of Academic Planning Units early 2017 when they met and that the issue of the removal of pass degree was discussed leading to the adoption of a four point grading system.
However, the four point scale which some universities started implementing was also found to have severe implementation shortcomings with some universities observing serious difficulties getting students to acquire average class of degree while the scale made it easier for students to have first class degrees.
Professor Vincent Asuru however stated that Ignatius Ajuru University of Education had maintained the five point scale of grading system before the directives from the National Universities Commission ( NUC).

How To Boost Your Interest In Reading Permanently

It is no doubt if I say that, the reading interest of many student has faded away completely. They have developed low or no interest in reading. I have met a lot of students complaining to me that they have lost interest in reading, what some of them told me include:
  • I have no interest in reading
  • I lost interest in reading
  • I show lack of interest in reading, why?
  • Why is there lack of interest in reading among students
  • I am losing interest in reading
  • What is responsible for the loss of interest in reading
  • Why do i lose interest in reading
If these are your questions, you don’t need to worry again.
In this article, I have come up with the different solutions including:
  • How to develop reading interest
  • How to find reading interesting
  • How to increase reading interest
  • How to make reading interesting
  • How to stimulate reading interest
  • What makes reading interesting
  • How to make reading interesting
So, keep calm and read this article till the end as you are on the way to set your reading spirit on fire!.

HOW TO BOOST YOUR INTEREST IN READING

1. READ IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT SUITS YOU
Your Reading environment is a factor that determines whether you’ll show interest in your reading or not. Imagine a music lover reading in an environment where music is being played or a football lover reading near a football field when people are playing football. What happens? They will end up showing no interest in reading because. WHY? Their interest will be in the music or football. I will advise you to read in a silent environment where there is no distraction.
2. READ USING YOUR FAVORITE STYLE
If you have been asking the question, why do I show no interest in reading?, this might be another reason. If you are using a reading technique that is not effective for you, you’ll end up having no interest in reading. So, discover your most effective reading technique, stick to it and your reading interest will surely improve.
3. READ THE RIGHT BOOK
The type of book you read will determine whether you will show interest or not. Yes, while some books are interesting, others are not until we read them to our interest. So, read books that are interesting and you’ll see your reading interest develop. Did I forget to tell you that I didn’t have interest in biology until I started reading Modern biology and College Biology(Idodo Umeh),neither did I show interest in reading English until I read “The invisible teacher” by Dele Asade. What if you have an examination to read for and you must read a book that is not interesting? Simple and easy, you just have to continue reading it until it becomes interesting. This is because some books are interesting from the start while you have to read others to the middle or end before you find them interesting. While you are doing this, you will definitely lose concentration. So, what do I do? You don’t need to panic, there’s a way out. Just read my article on “How to read for many hours without losing concentration“.
4. READ FREQUENTLY
Your reading frequency also determines your reading interest. Yes, the more you read, the more reading becomes interesting to you. So, read, read, read and read until you see the sweetness in reading.
5. ANSWER THE QUESTION “WHY”
Ask yourself, “Why am I reading?”. If you can provide the perfect answer to this question, your reading interest will definitely increase. What is the perfect answer to the question? My own “Why” might be different from yours, so find your answer. You can also ask yourself why you show interest in reading when examination is approaching than when you don’t have any examination tips write. That is only because, “You know your reason for reading”, which is the pass the examination. So, look for a “why” even when examination is not approaching.
6. CHALLENGE YOUR FRIENDS
I can’t forget how this really helped me and my friends back then. Our class was very competitive back then that YOU MUST READ. Have you ever seen a class where the 1st and 2nd position in class challenge themselves?, while the 3rd, 4th and 5th position in class also challenged each other for the 3rd position. The funniest part is that the 6th to 11th position were not left out as they also formed their group and challenged themselves for the 6th position. We all knew our performance and who we could challenge. That challenge improved the performance of everybody in my class because we all showed interest in reading. You don’t want to miss out ESPECIALLY WHEN MONEY IS INVOLVED!. Eventually, even if you lose, you won’t regret losing your money when your grade improves.
7. CHALLENGE YOURSELF
You may decide to add this to the challenge you already have above or use this alone. You may have friends that are not interested in reading and at the same time, not ready for the challenge. If this is your case, set up a challenge for yourself. Set a target that will make you afraid, a target you think you cannot achieve. You will be amazed at how far you will go.
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars
Conclusion
You won’t realise that you don’t know anything until you start reading. You interest in reading will definitely improve if you can follow the tips mentioned above.

  4. Planning skill
  5. Leadership skill
  6. Teamwork skill
  7. Management skill
  8. Sales/Marketing skill
  9. Problem solving skill
  10. Decision making skill
  11. Mathematics skill

11 SKILLS THAT CAN FETCH YOU A JOB YOU SHOULD IMPROVE

COMMUNICATION SKILL

This is probably the most important skill you need to work on. The first real impressive an employer gets is from the way you communicate. This skill comes in two forms
  • Speaking skill
  • Listening skill
Both are important skills you should improve yourself on. You should learn to listen more than you speak. Every day, try to learn new words and how to use them. Use these new words while speaking with friends and soon, these words will become part of you.

COMPUTER SKILL

We are now in the computer era. If you are not following the era, you are definitely lost. Even a little knowledge of computer can get you a job. Some people cannot even switch on a desktop. Funny right? That is just the truth.  If you can’t learn advance computer uses like programming, graphic designing, website designing, database managing and others, at least learn the basic uses of the computer. This include how to type fast, how to use the mouse, how to create, delete, edit folders and files, how to use the internet among others. You can proceed to further your computer knowledge to have an edge over others.
One of my teachers told me this:
I went for a job interview as an Accounting student. After series of interview, I was put to the final test. There, I was given a computer (desktop) without a mouse. They gave me a letter to type and save on a desktop without a mouse! I asked myself, how do I open Microsoft word to start typing the document?
Let me ask you a question. If you were the one, what will you do? Will you just tell your employers you can’t open the program because there is no mouse?
No! you shouldn’t do that. All you have to do is to use the Start button on the keyboard, go to All Programs with the arrow keys and press ENTER. Scroll down to Microsoft Office with the Arrow keys and Press ENTER. There, you will see the Microsoft Word software. Open it with ENTER key and you are good to go!.

WRITING SKILL AND READING SKILL

These are important skills you should improve on. You may be thinking, “I can read and write now”. You, you can, improving reading and writing skill is more than that. Let me ask you a question, Have you ever written a 2000+ article without copying from others? When was the last time you did that?
Those who write great articles that you read were not born with it. They become better and better with more practice. The more you write, you better you become in writing. However, what you can write depends on what you read. You can’t write down what you don’t have in your head. No matter your course or career, your reading and writing skills are indispensable.
Cultivate the habit of reading daily. Reading won’t kill you; it will only make you discover what you are capable of. If you are the type that read only during examination periods, then your reading skill is poor.

PLANNING SKILL

Have you ever been the planner of a successful event? If not, you need to find a way to become one. Becoming a Master planner is all about practice, though you may be naturally talented. What are those things I can plan and become an expert in planning? You can start by planning your day tomorrow.
Wake up as early as possible, write down the list of things you want to do tomorrow. Proceed to list when, where and how you want to do those things. Try to get things done according to your plan and see if it is possible and successful. With constant practice, you become a Master planner.

LEADERSHIP SKILL

If you ever want to become a leader in your field, then you must improve your leadership qualities. People can only make you a leader when they see the qualities of a good leader in you. Your ability to lead and direct others is another quality you don’t want to miss out.
Look for good leaders around you and find a way to ask them how.  You must be confident in yourself and what you are capable of doing. At the same time, you should learn to be humble to your followers. Learn to earn people’s respect; don’t force them to respect you.
Respect should be earned and not forced.

TEAMWORK SKILL

The success of an organization in most cases, depend on team work and not individual work. When you are good individually, learn to work with others effectively. If you think you can do it all on your own, then you are missing it. Learn to team up with others and work towards a goal.
Teamwork, according to an anonymous author divides the task and multiplies the success. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved easily.
If you dream it up, you can team it up. Teamwork make the dream work.

MANAGEMENT SKILL

Your ability to manage your time and resources is another important skill you should improve one. Time may not be enough to do everything, it is enough to do the most important things. Learn to do with your time the most important things of your life. If you can’t manage your time and resources, then you can’t manage your life.

SALES/MARKETING SKILL

Every company wants to improve her income. If you don’t have knowledge about sales and marketing strategies that work, your service may not be in need. The more income you can bring to a company, the more valuable you become to the CEO of that company. Money is used to run the organization, so don’t underestimate the value of Sales and marketing skills.

PROBLEM SOLVING SKILL

If you cannot solve simple as well and complex problems, what can you do? Day-by-day, we all come across series of problems. However, our ability to manage these problems makes us different. When you come across one, don’t run away or be afraid of it. Face it, and don’t rest until you find a solution.

DECISION MAKING SKILL

Do you find it easy making decisions during tough times? Or you are the type that depends on decisions from others? You don’t need to! I am not disputing the fact that you should ask for people’s opinion. In fact, I do that also. However, don’t let people decide for you.
If you make the wrong decision today, tomorrow is another day. The more the decisions you make (whether right or wrong), the more you learn and improve your decision making skill.
A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows public opinion. – Grantland Rice.

MATHEMATICS SKILL

You may be surprised I mentioned this, but you shouldn’t be. Don’t ever think that you don’t need to know Mathematics, it is very important. If you want to know how important Mathematics is, read this article.
Some students are now used to calculators that they can’t solve simple equations without it which is very bad.
